4. Seth Rollins As The Face And Dean Ambrose As The Heel
When the rumors of The Shield’s breakup happened, there was always the same idea that was reported about when they split up: Roman Reigns would be the babyface that gets pushed to the top the fastest, Seth Rollins would also be a babyface in the midcard and Dean Ambrose would be a heel. The assumption was that Rollins would have a long feud with Ambrose while Reigns would move on to the bigger names.
The part about Reigns moving on to bigger names has proven true, but the roles of Rollins and Ambrose were off. It’s Ambrose that is the babyface in that story and he’s shown an ability to really connect with the fans. They genuinely love the guy right now. While the “lunatic fringe” name might not be the greatest, the idea of a crazy guy that’s a babyface character is definitely working.
As for Rollins, the thinking with him is that he’s such a great athlete and a high flier that people are going to want to cheer for him because of his ability to hit those big highspots to make the fans say “wow” at everything he does. He is still doing some of those spots, but he’s also thriving as a heel that is under the thumb of evil Triple H so to speak.
When Rollins turned people were shocked not necessarily because The Shield came to a crashing halt, but due to the fact that it was Rollins that turned instead of Ambrose.
