9 Most Brutual Matches In WWE History 7

7. Mick Foley vs Edge – WrestleMania 22, April 2006

A quick warning here – this is not the only time Mick Foley will feature on this countdown. Unsurprising, I know. Edge’s stock was rising rapidly at this point in his career, his transition from clean-cut babyface to the self-proclaimed “Rated R Superstar” a major success. Despite this, he still needed a match to prove he had the toughness to be regarded as a force at the top of the card. Enter Mick Foley.
Mick had made a career out of breaking bodies, both his opponents’ and his own, and this bout met all the expectations that came with it. All the gruesome Foley hallmarks were there. Barbed wire? Check. Thumbtacks? Check. Bleeding? It would be rude not to. The match was warming up nicely, but things really escalated when Edge’s girlfriend Lita pulled out a bottle of lighter fluid.
A table was propped up outside the ring and set ablaze. Somebody was going through that, but the danger of the sequence which followed shocked just about everybody in the Allstate Arena. Edge speared Foley out of the ring and through the table, amazingly taking the brunt of the blow himself face first. He went on to win the match, his tough-guy credentials proven once and for all. Foley had played his part in establishing a new star, just as he had done many times previously…
