5. Damien Sandow

Given his current downward spiral, you’d be forgiven for not remembering a time when Damien Sandow was actually over. He arrived shortly after WrestleMania 28 in 2012 using a snobby intellectual character similar to The Genius. Entering to Hallelujah and holding the microphone as if it were a glass of fine wine, he cut promos using incredibly long words and comparing himself to Plato and Aristotle.
The character was a hit. Sandow was instantly one of the most recognizable stars in WWE. His look and vocabulary made him stand out. But more than that, fans liked the character. It was different. It was unique to fans too young to have seen the Genius. His frequent mic time ensured that his character had more depth than half the new arrivals on the roster. For example when Ryback debuted around the same time, his character began and ended with his “Feed me more!” catchphrase.
It’s fair to say that Sandow won’t be reaching the main event level any time soon (or ever), but if WWE were to bring back his intellectual savior of the masses gimmick, it would be the best thing to happen to Damien right now.
