4. CM Punk VS Shinsuke Nakamura
Obviously, there’s a bit of a catch here, with Punk no longer being contracted by WWE, but for the sake of conversation, let’s include him.
This just seems like a natural pairing. Nakamura seems to march to the beat of his own drummer, combines pro wrestling and MMA in his matches, often wins those matches with a stiff knee to the face, and is a multi-layered performer, able to get crowd reactions in the ring, on the microphone, or just by making certain facial expressions. That sure seems like a pretty accurate description of Punk.
Even when Punk and Nakamura are heels, fans can’t help to enjoy their work. They’re magnificent storytellers, and placed together, you’re pretty much guaranteed a classic. Just to add to the “fantasy booking” aspect, let’s also say that this would be Punk’s first match back. He’ll be completely fresh, with fully recharged batteries. This is the kind of match that he would love to participate in, instead of the typical “WWE stuff” he’s normally a part of. A happy, refreshed CM Punk? That’s scary to think about. It seems like so long since we’ve seen anything even closely resembling that. This match would be wild, physical, unpredictable, full of submissions, and perhaps the beginning of a great Punk renaissance.
