6. Randy Savage

There is one thing that always made Savage stand out in the ring, more than just about anyone else that came before him, or that came after him. He had an almost obsessive habit of going over his matches with his opponents beforehand. MOVE by move, spot by spot, moment by moment, he would meticulously put his matches together, to the point that many would say it would almost drive them crazy to work with him.
Putting the matches together the way he did led to a nice, and obvious, advantage… you would rarely ever see a Randy Savage match that included really noticeable botches and mistakes. In a normal match, you might see Wrestler A forget a spot or Wrestler B set up for something incorrectly. It’s only human to mess something up every now and then, especially with everything that goes into putting a SINGLE MATCH together. There’s a lot of choreography that you have to remember… spots, the order of the spots, when to do what, and so on. Combine that with the sheer amount of matches that the average wrestler participates in, and it’s no surprise that some people have “cookie cutter” matches that often look the same. Savage was always superb in showing that, sometimes, practice really does make perfect.
