7. Chris Benoit

To this day, it’s still controversial to WRITE or talk about Chris Benoit, especially in any sort of positive manner, but the fact remains that his in-ring ability was almost second-to-none.
He was one of the most intense and driven men to ever step foot in a ring. He wanted to be great, and it showed. He took his craft very seriously, and he wanted to have amazing matches every night. Having that worldly experience helped him, too, as he would have the submission styles of Canada and the stiff, shoot-like styles of Japan blended right in. That made for a tremendous combination, allowing him to stand out, even when he wasn’t a top guy. He was certainly never the biggest man in the BUSINESS, but that aggression and those in-ring weapons helped him to close that size gap, no matter who he was facing. It took many years… too many, in the opinion of most… but he was finally able to use that to win World Titles, first in WCW (even though that was mainly viewed as a “please don’t leave” gift), and then in WWE. The WWE win was especially large, because WWE has almost always been a land where you can’t crash through the “glass ceiling” unless you have an inordinate amount of charisma and mic skills, or if you have the physique of a Greek God, neither of which you could say about Benoit.
