7. Aiden English

One of the most unique characters this decade, Aiden English was originally used in an enhancement role for over a year on NXT. But as talent like the Shield, Big E Langston and The Wyatts get called up to the main roster, the door opens for NXTs supporting players to receive gimmicks and pushes (Seriously the jobbers you see on NXT this week will get their turn eventually). When Aiden English finally received his character, it was not cool, or tough, or particularly threatening. He was an Opera Singer.
Walking to the ring under a spotlight, he would sing his own entrance theme, and not like R-Truth. He would sing a soft, gentle, classical number that would explain how great he was and how he was putting the “E” back in WWE. As a finishing touch, fans would throw roses as English bowed and performed an Encore. Aiden English was already over by the end of his first song, and that was even before his first match! So over was his gimmick, that fans would chant “Encore! Encore!” after every match and he would deliver, which actually seemed like the opposite of playing the heel.
Unfortunately the character disappeared earlier this year. Despite his popularity, English doesn’t exactly have the ideal physique for the main roster, and so it was decided to put him in a tag team instead. However as one door closed, another opened as he teamed with Simon Gotch to form the Vaudevillians. Similar to Colt Cabana’s Matt Classic character, these 1920s throwbacks are one of the most entertaining acts on NXT. So much in fact that fans seem to forget that they are heels
