10 Reasons WWE Fans Need To Calm Down 10

10. Have You Checked Out Independent Wrestling, Lately? WWE Wants You To… And That’s Great

The idea that WWE would source footage from Ring of Honor on its releases makes sense. After all, its two biggest stars of the past five years – CM Punk and Daniel Bryan – cut their teeth there and significantly polished their talents in the company. However, The Shield documentary sources footage not just from Ring of Honor, but from Dragon Gate USA and Combat Zone Wrestling, as well as alluding to Full Impact Pro, too. Even further, now WWE release staple “indie insider” Gabe Sapolsky (he of booking ROH, and now booking Dragon Gate USA and Evolve fame) is there too, looking like a smiling advertisement for checking out smaller, non-WWE promotions to find out who’s next.
WWE acknowledging the indies is important. Now-WWE agent Joey Mercury mentions on the program that wrestlers with indepdendent wrestling experience come into developmental “with an advantage,” so obviously taking note of these promotions as a “minor league” is important. As well, the idea that a WWE talent scout somewhere has likely watched Jon Moxley (Ambrose’s indy wrestling name) wrestle Brain Damage in CZW’s 2009 Tournament of Death is INCREDIBLY amusing.
