4. Long Term Strategy

A lengthy Lesnar reign is beneficial for several reasons. He’s the kind of serious performer who adds prestige to WWE’s brand, so WWE shouldn’t treat this reign as a month long attention grabber, they need to give the man time to work his act. The longer he stays champ, the more outside interest will build, leading to more casual fans taking a look at WWE. Those of us who already do watch will furthermore be engaged, constantly wondering how long he can maintain his grip of the championship.
This long term strategy is a proven draw winner. Take a look at when WWE booked Rock vs Cena a year out from WrestleMania 28. It ended up doing the strongest ppv buyrate ever. Take a look at Undertaker’s streak over 21 years, the longer it went on, the more fans bought into watching it. Lesnar’s title can have much of the same effect in a smaller time window. The more dominant defences he puts in, the more we’ll be fascinated to see who can conquer the beast. From here on, Lesnar should be booked to smash everyone like he did Cena.
When you combine conquering the streak with destroying Cena, WWE have an absolute mega storyline invested in Lesnar. That’s why he’s right for the belt just now, he’s an investment that will eventually pay huge dividends.
